GOWANDA — The Gowanda Central School District is moving forward with emergency repairs to the district pool.

At a recent Board of Education meeting, an emergency pool repair capital project was approved. The cost is estimated by Young & Wright Architectural between $300,000 and $400,000.

The resolution passed by the Board of Education accounts for up to $500,000 in funding, coming from the district’s fund balance. The cost will be reimbursed through the state, and the repair project will not impact future state aid.

The Board of Education passed the resolution after entertaining a presentation by Young & Wright Architectural representative Matt Cummings at the previous meeting.

Cummings said that the emergency pool repairs would remove and replace all gutter drain, vacuum line and inlet fittings; as well as install a new stainless steel gutter system around the perimeter of the pool, a tablet chlorine feeder, and a chemical controller. Some tiles will need to be replaced, and the pool will need an acid wash and re-grout. Just how many tiles will need to be replaced is unclear, which is what led to the uncertainty about the overall cost of the repairs.

Also at the recent meeting, the district awarded the bid for the High School Gym Floor Refinishing Project to Archie Donoughe Sanding, Inc. in the amount of $51,300.

The Board of Education also approved the extension of employment of Superintendent Dr. Robert Anderson to June 6, 2028. Anderson will receive salaries of $162,000 in 2025-2026; $165,000 in 2026-2027; and $168,000 in 2027-2028.

The Board also approved the district’s 2023-2024 Code of Conduct, upon the recommendation of Anderson.

Starting at $2.99/week.
