BROCTON — Holiday celebrations kick off a week early this year in the village of Brocton.

The Brocton Central School District will be hosting a Holiday Extravaganza on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Fitness Center entrance of Brocton High School. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Brocton High School Class of 2024.

“I think it’s going to be fabulous,” said Cynthia James, a Business Teacher at Brocton Central School, who serves as the Senior Class Advisor.

The event is billed as “fun for the whole family,” where guests are encouraged to “spend an afternoon with Santa.” The school will welcome vendors of various crafts and products, with activities for all ages, including holiday themed music and story time for young children.

The event will also include glass mugs and ornament making, face painting, hot cocoa, and a bake sale, along with basket raffles, games and prizes offered throughout the event. Various upscale baskets have already been donated for the event.

Among the vendors for the event are 716 Homestead Creations, A-Z Signs, AJ’s Woodworks, Crafty Decor & Ideas, Nalepa Novelties, Nola’s Angels Horse Rescue, Tastefully Simple, and more. Horse and Buggy rides will also be offered at $5 per ride.

“It just snowballed. Somebody said they could do a hot cocoa stand, another parent chimed in that they could do face painting. It all just came to fruition,” said James. “It’s great.”

To fundraise for a class trip to the New Jersey shoreline at Asbury Park later this year, James turned to the Senior Class and, especially, the parents for help. It was then that the idea for the Holiday Extravaganza was born.

“I have a great parent group. The parents are amazing,” James said. She has been the Class Advisor for the Senior Class throughout their four years in high school.

The Brocton parents even have their own bank account set up to raise money for enhanced experiences for their students. “The parents are great at raising money, wanting these kids to have a really good experience,” James said.

The event also got the attention of the Village Board at a recent meeting. “I’m glad that somebody is trying to do something,” Village Trustee Bryan Woleben said.

“It sounds like it will be a really cool event,” added Village Trustee Kari Doino.

Access cards for children ages 2-12 are offered at $5 each. Single tickets are $1 for ages 13 and up, while children under the age of 2 are admitted free of charge.

Starting at $2.99/week.
