Area native retires from U.S. Army

Col. Adam Czekanski officially retired from the U.S. Army during a May 30 ceremony at the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library in downtown Buffalo.

Maj. Gen. Mark Quander, Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Great Lakes and Ohio River Division, presided over the ceremony attended by family, friends and professional acquaintances.

Czekanski earned his commission as an Engineer Officer in the United States Army through the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) program at Cornell University in 1998. His nearly 26 years of active duty service culminated with command of the Pittsburgh District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where he was responsible for leading more than 700 civilian and military personnel overseeing a $1.4B civil works program.

Czekanski’s career included a diversity of assignments at Fort Drum, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.,, Korea, West Point, Fort Leavenworth, Kan., Fort Carson, Colo., San Francisco, Buffalo, Niagara University, as well as deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

He is a 1994 graduate of Silver Creek Central School and is son of Michael and Diane Czekanski of Sheridan. He currently resides in Orchard Park with his wife, Wendi, and children, Annabelle and Nicholas.
