Shooting reported at Fredonia hotel, one injured
A shooting spree is continuing in Chautauqua County.
Around 8:15 p.m. Monday, a gunshot wound victim was reported on the second floor of the Econo Lodge on Route 60 just inside the village of Fredonia. Both Dunkirk and Fredonia Fire Department were responding as well as law enforcement officials.
Scanner reports indicated officials knew who the suspect in the shooting was and it is believed the suspect was caught near Routes 20 and 60 near Country Fair before 9 p.m.
This is the fifth shooting incident in the last five days. One occurred Wednesday in Dunkirk, three incidents were reported on Friday and Saturday in Jamestown that led to one death.
Before the most recent death, the county had five homicides through the beginning of August — the highest total in recent years.
