Local choices fill out ballot

This year on the presidential election, there are a number of other federal, state and local elections as well.

FEDERAL

In Chautauqua County, residents will be voting for U.S. Senate. Incumbent Kirsten Gillibrand is running for re-election. She is being challenged by Michael Sapraicone and Diane Sare. Gillibrand is running on the Democratic and Working Families lines. Sapraicone is running on the Republican and Conservative lines. Sare is running on the LaRouche line.

Residents will be voting for Representative in Congress. Nick Langworthy is running for re-election. He is being challenged by Thomas Carle. Langworthy is running on the Republican and Conservative lines. Carle is running on the Democratic line.

STATE

There are four candidates running for four seats for Supreme Court Justice Judicial District 8. Henry Nowak and Catherine R. Nugent-Panepinto are running on the Democratic, Republican, Conservative and Working Families lines. Deborah Chimes and Michael Norris are running on the Democratic, Republican and Conservative lines.

For State Senate, incumbent George Borrello is running unopposed. He will be listed on the Republican and Conservative lines.

For Member of Assembly, two candidates are running for the open seat. Mike Bobseine is running on the Democratic, Working Families, and Restore Freedom lines. Andrew Molitor is running on the Republican and Conservative lines. Current Assemblyman Andy Goodell is not running for re-election.

There is also one statewide ballot proposition, titled “Amendment to protect against unequal treatment.” The full proposition is as follows: “This proposal would protect against unequal treatment based on ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, and sex, including sexual orientation, gender identity and pregnancy. It also protects against unequal treatment based on reproductive healthcare and autonomy.” Voters are asked to select either “yes” or “no” to add these protections to the state constitution.

COUNTYWIDE

For District Attorney, incumbent Jason Schmidt is running unopposed. He will be listed on the Republican and Conservative lines.

For Family Court Judge, Peter Johnson is running on the Republican and Conservative lines. Sally Jaroszynski is running on the Working Families lines.Current Family Court Judge Jeffrey A. Piazza is retiring at the end of the year.

TOWN ELECTIONS

Of the 27 towns in Chautauqua County, 18 of them have town elections this fall. There are contested races in Hanover, Kiantone, and Pomfret. There is also a separate proposition in Ellington.

CARROLL – Justin Lingenfelter is running for town council and Tamera Gustafson is running for town justice. Both candidates are on the Republican and Conservative lines.

CHARLOTTE – Larry Green is running for town council on the Republican line.

CHAUTAUQUA – Terry Sanden is running for highway superintendent vacancy. He is on the Republican line.

CHERRY CREEK – Becky Rowicki is running for town council and Kristin Sercu is running for town justice. Both candidates are on the Republican line.

CLYMER – Wendy Trisket is running for town clerk vacancy on the Republican line.

DUNKIRK – Robert Price is running for town council vacancy He is on the Democratic line.

ELLERY – John Ferrara is running for town justice on the Republican line.

ELLINGTON – Residents are being asked to vote on a townwide proposition regarding its library. The proposition is as follows: “Shall the town of Ellington be authorized to levy and collect an annual tax on $65,000, separate from the town’s annual budget, for the Ellington Farman Library?”

HANOVER – There are two candidates running for town justice. Martin Buchnowski is on the Democratic line, while Gary Cerne is on the Republican line.

HARMONY/NORTH HARMONY – Howard Peacock is running for justice for both the towns of Harmony and North Harmony.

KIANTONE – There are two candidates running for one councilmember vacancy. Jeffrey Peterson is running on the Democratic line and Richard Hooks is running on the Republican line.

POLAND – April Ericsson is running for town council vacancy on the Republican line.

POMFRET – There are two candidates running for one councilmember vacancy. Michael Lee is running on the Democratic and Working Families lines, while David Bird is running on the Republican and Conservative lines.

PORTLAND – There are two candidates running for one town collector vacancy seat. Nicole Young is running on the Democratic line. Debra Delcamp is running on the Republican and Conservative lines.

RIPLEY – Laura Pless is running for town supervisor on the Democratic line. Philip Chimera is running for town councilmember vacancy on the Democratic, Republican and Conservative lines. David Hustead Jr. is running for town justice on the Democratic line.

SHERMAN – Annette Swan is running for town clerk vacancy on the Republican line.

STOCKTON – John Sipos Jr. is running for town councilmember vacancy on the Republican line.

VILLAGES

Of the 12 villages in Chautauqua County, six have village elections this fall, with Brocton and Silver Creek the only ones with contested races.

BEMUS POINT – Ted Farnham and David Lipsey are running for two trustee seats. David Chertoff is running for trustee vacancy. All three candidates are running on the Republican line.

BROCTON – There are three candidates running for two trustee seats. Barbara Colt is running on the Democratic line. Drew Ransom and Brandy Smith are running on the Republican line.

CELORON – Valerie Murphy and Kate Burnett are running for two trustee seats. Both candidates are running on the Democratic line.

MAYVILLE – Janel Webb and Daniel Roush are running for two trustee seats. Both candidates are running on the Republican line.

PANAMA – William Schneider is running for mayor and Todd Eddy is running for trustee. Both candidates are running on the Republican line.

SILVER CREEK – There are four candidates running for two trustee seats. James Castiglia and Benjamin Lewis are running on the Democratic line, while Dwane Haskins and William Barnes are running on the Republican line.

CITIES

Neither Dunkirk nor Jamestown have any elections this fall.
