Fredonia Trap Team wraps up fall season
HANOVER — The Fredonia Central School trap team recently wrapped up their 2024 fall season at Hanover Fish and Game Club. Thirteen students competed amongst themselves and as a team within the USA Clay Target league.
Fredonia took third place in their conference which is consistent with previous seasons. Awards were given to first place average 21.70 Daniel Cook, second place average 21.60 Kyle Pierce, and third place average 20.20 Aidan Kinney. Gibson Way earned the most improved competitor spot.
Students compete for one of three different levels based on their season average. Students can obtain novice, junior varsity, and varsity level scores. Cooper Stenger reached new personal best scores. Newcomer Lucie Katta picked up trap quickly and continues to improve her scores. Nathan Balch and Brayden Fabiano received JV letters. Wyatt Bartoo, Daniel Cook, Aidan Kinney, Chelsea Pierce, Kyle Pierce, Connor Sullivan, and Thane Turo received varsity letters.
The team competed in a competition of Annie Oakley each week honing their skills and learning patience by hitting the clay bird at further distances than they were accustomed to. Through the process of elimination starting with 13 students the last student left on the line breaking their bird won the competition. Jazz Witkowski was a tough competitor, eliminating two students at once on several occasions. Winners included Wyatt Bartoo, Daniel Cook, Brayden Fabiano, Aidan Kinney, Chelsea Pierce, and Kyle Pierce.
The team now looks to the spring season to begin and to return to the New York State competition where they have previously won three individual awards and one team award.
