Gowanda appoints student board members
GOWANDA — The Gowanda Board of Education welcomed two new members at its recent meeting, and they each bring a unique perspective to the Board.
Gowanda students Molly Bowers and Sydney Smith were welcomed as the student representatives on the Board at its recent meeting. They each took an oath of office in the early moments of the meeting.
In other news, the District recently unveiled its refurbished playground and students have enjoyed the new equipment. However, the pool repair project is not going as well. Water has been leaking from the pool after it was filled to the tune of approximately 1,000 gallons a day. Superintendent Dr. Robert Anderson said “many different remedies” have been attempted by the District, but the efforts have been unsuccessful so far. The pool will be drained for the District to reevaluate its steps moving forward.
Several donations were recently accepted by the District, including a total of $2,881 for the High School Student Council, $210 for the High School Travel Club, $200 for the Class of 2027, and a pool table for the Panther Privilege Incentive Room. The District also established the Rosemarie F. Bolen Scholarship award to be determined by the Scholarship Committee.
The Board also approved a new District policy regarding the use of artificial intelligence and adopted the District’s Corrective Action Plan. A Memorandum of Agreement between the District and the Gowanda Teachers’ Association regarding the retirement incentive was also approved, as was a transportation contract in the amount of $676 per day.
The next meeting of the Gowanda Board of Education is Wednesday, Dec. 11.
