Silver Creek Fire Department remains busy
SILVER CREEK — With less than two months to go, the Silver Creek Fire Department is approaching 500 total calls for the year.
The Fire Department responded to 48 calls in the month of October, the same total as the previous month. Of those 48 calls in October, 30 were emergency medical services (EMS) calls and six were motor vehicle accidents. For the 2024 calendar year, the Fire Department has responded to 456 calls in 10 months, including more than 300 EMS calls, 47 motor vehicle accidents, and 11 structure fires.
The Fire Department has seen a steady flow of new members this year, and the latest meeting was no different. Hannah Cotter was approved by the Village as a new member at the recent meeting. Additionally, Brad Pinsky, an EMS Firefighter labor attorney, was authorized to draft a wage proposal for the Fire Department. Mayor Jeff Hornburg thanked the Department for its efforts to support the community.
The Village also adopted a resolution in support of continued and increased State aid for local governments. The State awarded an increase of $50 million statewide this year to support local governments, but the New York Conference of Mayors hopes the increase is not a one-time offer.
The next Mobile Food Pantry event, sponsored by the Silver Creek Food Pantry, the Village of Silver Creek, and Feedmore WNY, will be on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the village municipal parking lot. The event is free of charge to residents of Silver Creek and other nearby communities. There is no Mobile Food Pantry event in December.
The Village will also be presenting the inaugural “Holiday Lights, Christmas Nights” home decorating contest. All residents of Silver Creek are eligible to compete in the contest, which runs from Nov. 28 through Dec. 10. A winner will be announced on Dec. 15. For more information, call (716) 934-3240.
The next meeting of the Silver Creek Village Board is Monday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. at the Village Hall.
