Brown officially out as Silver Creek Principal
SILVER CREEK — The Silver Creek Central School District has made it official: Bethany Brown is no longer the district’s Middle School Principal.
The most recent Board of Education meeting included Brown’s resignation from any and all appointments within the district. Brown’s two-sentence resignation letter was dated Nov. 19 and took effect Dec. 1.
Sharon Huff began acting as Substitute Principal on Monday, Nov. 11. She was appointed to the role later that week at the Board of Education meeting Nov. 14. At that meeting, there was no mention of Brown’s departure, and her absence was later characterized by the district as an absence. Families were notified the week of Huff’s appointment.
A month later, Brown’s departure was listed within the consent agenda of the December Board of Education meeting. The District and the Board of Education did not make any public comments of her departure at the meeting.
Brown was appointed as Middle School Principal in November of 2021 on the recommendation of then-Superintendent Todd Crandall. Brown’s role with the District was then set to begin in January of 2022. Upon her appointment, the District stated Brown had eight years of teaching experience, as well as three years as an Elementary School Principal and seven years as a Middle School Principal.
A “Separation Agreement, Including General Release” was agreed upon between the District and Brown. The Board authorized Superintendent Dr. Katie Ralston to execute the agreement.
Both the November and December meetings of the Silver Creek Board of Education included a five-minute recess before reconvening to enter into executive session to discuss personnel matters.
The appointment of Huff as acting Middle School Principal was done as a substitute, rather than as an interim, with no end date listed. Terms of Huff’s contract are determined under Ralston’s direction.
A memorandum of agreement between the district and Delia Bonenberger, District Administrator, was also extended through June 30.
