Three charged after weapons, drugs found in city traffic stop

A traffic violation in the city of Dunkirk on Tuesday led to three individuals being charged in connection with drugs and weapons.

At 9:43 p.m., a Dunkirk Police Department officer a vehicle and traffic stop. Further investigation led to the discovery of a significantly large amount of narcotics, paraphernalia, and two illegally possessed pistols.

More than half a pound of Methamphetamine, 71.1 grams of Fentanyl, Mushrooms, narcotic pills and various amounts of other unknown powders were additionally recovered with a significant amount of cash, scales, and a large amount of packaging material were also seized.

Two illegally possessed firearms were also located — a .22 revolver and a 9mm Beretta semi-automatic pistol. The Beretta pistol was later determined to have been reported stolen from an address in Jamestown, NY. Both firearms were loaded and several rounds of ammunition were also located in the vehicle. All three occupants of the vehicle, Mark C. Baker II, 36 of Tonawanda, Dennis W. Topliffe, 44 of Portland, and Melinda J. Monroe, 26, of North East Pa., were charged with felony second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felony third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felony third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, two separate counts of felony second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, felony fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and criminally using drug paraphernalia. Baker, who was on supervised Probation, was additionally charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th and vehicle and traffic law violations.

All three subjects were transported to Dunkirk police headquarters. They were later arraigned and remanded to county jail on $10,000 cash bail/$20,000 bond. Dunkirk Police were assisted by Sheriff’s Department deputies and members of the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force.
