Tampio named deputy mayor; Barnes, Haskins sworn in
Kathy Tampio was appointed as Deputy Mayor of Silver Creek by Mayor Jeff Hornburg at the Village Board’s first meeting of 2025.
Tampio previously served as Town of Hanover Supervisor. She has also served as the administrative coordinator for the Northern Chautauqua County Water District; Executive Director of the Chadwick Bay Regional Development Corp.; Chautauqua County Legislature Financial Analyst; and clerk of the Chautauqua County Legislature for 11 years.
The Board and the audience at the recent meeting were amused by the lack of enthusiasm in Tampio’s tone as she voted in favor of her appointment as Deputy Mayor. She later smiled ear to ear as she joked with Mayor Hornburg when he referred to her as Deputy Mayor Tampio later in the meeting.
Tampio playfully said to Hornburg, “You’re not going out of town anytime soon, are you?”
Recently elected Village Trustees Bill Barnes and Dwayne Haskins were also sworn in together at the recent meeting. Tampio and Trustee Sandra Lindstrom both offered congratulations to the recently elected officials.
“I just want to thank the residents for their support in the past election,” Barnes said. He was elected to his third term on the Village Board of Trustees this past November. “I am looking forward to serving my third term and working not only with the Board, but also with the residents of the village.”
Haskins joined the Board after Marv Cummings resigned as Village Trustee and Deputy Mayor following a move out of the village last year. He was elected to his first term this past fall.
“I want to thank the community for voting me in. I want to work with you guys, and you work with me,” Haskins said. “I’ve got a great team here. I think we can do good.”
While the Board made several appointments at its recent meeting, another is on the horizon. Tampio revealed that Donna Metzger has expressed her intent to resign from the Village Planning Board. Tampio thanked Metzger for her 28 years of service on the Planning Board. Metzger has also volunteered with Meals on Wheels for 14 years.
“She’s been a wonderful community servant,” Tampio said.
