FORESTVILLE — The Forestville Central School District recently lost one of its strongest supporters with the death of Teresa Cleary. The District is planning to honor her memory somehow moving forward.

“We’re working with the family to find a way to honor Teresa Cleary. We haven’t come up with something yet, but we will do something in her memory,” Superintendent Dr. John O’Connor said. “In one of the worst moments, they still thought of their school district, which isn’t surprising if you know that family.”

Cleary, 57, died on Jan. 17 at Buffalo General Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Her husband, Sylvester Cleary, is a former member of the Forestville Board of Education. He was the 2018 Chautauqua County School Board Association Board Member of the Year award recipient.

As the District evaluates the best way to memorialize Teresa Cleary, the Board of Education accepted several donations in her honor. Donations of $100 were accepted from Merv Fry and Nancy Adams; Peter Clark; Douglas Gier; Stacy Mierzwa; and the New York State School Boards Association. The District expects more donations to come over the next few weeks.

Also of note, several shared sports program agreements between the Fredonia and Forestville school districts were approved at the latest meeting of the Forestville Board of Education. Fredonia will serve as the host school for each of the sports programs approved at the meeting, including boys and girls swimming, boys and girls wrestling, and boys and girls golf.

A donation of $3,851 from the Forestville Sports Boosters was approved for the purpose of a basketball shooting machine.

The Board also approved a payment of $900 to the Class of 2025 toward the purchase of caps and gowns. The 2025-2026 Instructional Calendar was also approved.

The Board also approved three substitutes to be hired pending completion of all requirements. The hirings include Justine Delcamp, Uncertified Teacher/Floater Monitor Aide; Alexis Delcamp, Uncertified Teacher/Floater Monitor Aide; and Judith Young, Floater Monitor Aide.

The resignation of Christine Bowker, Elementary Substitute Caller, was accepted by the Board, effective Jan. 31. Brenda Schneider was appointed as Elementary Substitute Caller, effective Feb. 1, with a prorated stipend of $1,229.

Lili Botticelli was approved as a District Volunteer. A change in hours in transportation for Steve Waugh was also approved.

The Board also nominated incumbent members Ronald Catalano, Kathleen Chiavetta, Dwight Eagan, Linda Hoffman, and Anita Ray for three-year terms on the Erie II BOCES Board.

The next meeting of the Forestville Board of Education meeting will be March 13, following a budget workshop beginning at 5:15 p.m. in the Middle/High School Library.

Starting at $2.99/week.
