Political signs not in Pomfret code plans
The town of Pomfret is not going to include language on political signs in its rezoning effort.
“The new code does not define, and eliminated the term, political signs,” said Jeffrey Passafaro, town attorney, at the February Pomfret Town Board meeting. He warned, “My view is, if you don’t state it and define it, you don’t regulate it.”
Robert Dando voiced concerns at the January board meeting that the proposed new code didn’t include a provision for political signs. It only addressed temporary signs, he said. Dando returned for the February meeting to fret about the zoning overhaul again, this time to state that language in the codes, and accompanying maps, doesn’t quite match up.
Dan Pacos, town supervisor, appeared a bit frustrated. “We’re months from being able to adopt this,” and every delay just drags things further along, he said.
Passafaro noted the items under discussion were prepared by a consultant, and nothing is in final form until the town board signs off on it.
