FORESTVILLE — A group of local students thought of their community with a recent project that makes one of their local spots a little bit easier for all to enjoy.

The Fredonia Star Riders 4-H Club constructed a bench and gifted it to Imagine Forestville to be located on the Forestville Hiking Trail.

“The thought was with this bench, older residents and disabled people could more enjoy the trail if they had a place to rest at the halfway point,” said Summer Sanden, a member of the Fredonia Star Riders.

Autumn Klisiewicz, 4-H club leader, introduced the Fredonia Star Riders to the members of Imagine Forestville, while Sanden presented to the group.

“The bench you see before you was built by all of our hands,” Sanden said. “We made this totally out of construction scraps that could have gone to a landfill. The bottom sled legs were added for stability and are made from locust wood that won’t rot out.”

The Fredonia Star Riders 4-H Club consists of Summer Sanden, Ava Nearhoff, Ally Nearhoff, Sienna Galofaro, Isabell Saletta, Lily Stranahand, Abigail Oakes, and Maddie Oaks.

The girls were led by the supervision and guidance of Rick and Autumn Klisiewicz, as they learned to read the blueprints and how to safely operate power tools, such as such as a compound miter saw, an impact driver, circular saw and drills. They also learned to use a speed square to find angles and to square off the used wood; they used a tape measure and a common square; and they learned about the different woods used in the project.

The Fredonia Star Riders thanked Imagine Forestville for its efforts establishing and maintaining the Forestville Hiking Trail.

Starting at $2.99/week.
