City Man Charged After Attempted Burglary

A Jamestown man faces charges after an alleged burglary in progress Monday morning on Jamestown’s south side.

City police charged Michael E. Wolfe, 46, of Jamestown with second-degree burglary, possession of burglar tools, petit larceny, second-degree criminal impersonation and resisting arrest after responding at 9:47 a.m. Monday to the south side for a reported burglary in progress. Police received a report that a man dressed entirely in black was attempting to get inside a home while the homeowners were still inside.

Officers arrived at the scene to find a man inside the garage attached to the home. Officer Kraft and his K-9 officer, Kal, encountered the man as he was leaving the garage, and other officers arrived and tried to detain Wolfe, who then allegedly resisted arrest. After a brief struggle, Wolfe allegedly gave officers a false name because he had outstanding arrest warrants.

Police report Wolfe had burglar’s tools when he was caught.

Wolfe was arraigned in Jamestown City Court and released under state bail guidelines.

It’s the second time in less than a year that Wolfe has been charged after allegedly trying to steal a lawnmower from another south side home in May 2024. He was charged with petit larceny in that incident.

According to the 2024 annual report on public safety released recently on the city’s website, burglaries in Jamestown have been on the decline since 2020, when the city reached a five-year high of 239. There were 151 reported burglaries in 2024.

Starting at $2.99/week.
