Dunkirk schedules Town Hall meeting for residents

After a successful inaugural event a year ago, another open Town Hall meeting has been scheduled for residents to discuss matters pertaining to the town of Dunkirk. The meeting will be on Thursday, April 24 at 6 p.m. at the Town Hall.
The gathering could turn out to be more of a celebration if the Town is able to secure a few of its remaining outstanding easements pertaining to the Shorewood Water District capital project. The Town estimates nine outstanding easements, but multiple easements are possessed by the same residents. The Town is awaiting an updated, detailed map of where the water line will infringe upon properties that have yet to sign easements.
“I think a couple of those will get signed, a couple of them will be a little more challenging,” Town Supervisor Priscilla Penfold said.
The Town is still considering the process of eminent domain, which would be costly in both legal costs, but also in terms of compensation for the acquisition of land. Any costs incurred throughout the process would be split amongst all members of the Shorewood Water District, not just those who did not sign easements.
Also of note, the Town of Dunkirk Planning Board recently held a lengthy meeting with representatives from 7 Brew Coffee. According to Town Board member Phil Leone, who attended the meeting, the proposal was received well. Concerns regarding entering and exiting the area were raised and will be addressed further before a final proposal is presented to the Town Board. Leone urged the Town Board to set up a meeting with 7 Brew representatives for more information.
The Town Clerk’s Office collected $2,079 in the month of February, including $1,650 in zoning fees. The Town Justice Court handled 256 cases in the month of February, with a total of $23,180.22 turned over to the Town.
The Town Board also appointed Linda Leone as Town Historian. The position comes with a yearly stipend of $1,000. Leone is the wife of Town Board member Phil Leone, who abstained from the vote to approve her appointment.
