Emergency response: Silver Creek responds to four vehicle accidents in March

Submitted Photo The Silver Creek Fire Department provided mutual aid to the Sunset Bay Fire Company in response to this motor vehicle accident just off Routes 5 and 20 in the Town of Hanover earlier this month. Silver Creek responded to four other motor vehicle accidents during the month of March.
SILVER CREEK — While most of the talk surrounding fire departments in the Village of Silver Creek and the Town of Hanover has been about a potential merger, the departments have all still been hard at work.
The Village of Silver Creek Fire Department responded to 37 calls in the month of March, including 27 Emergency Medical Services (EMS) calls, four motor vehicle accidents, one structure fire, and one vegetation/rubbish fire.
In the first three months of 2025, the Silver Creek Fire Department and Emergency Squad has responded to 103 calls in total, including 69 EMS calls, 10 motor vehicle accidents, and four structure fires. The Department responded to 542 calls responded to in 2024, including 360 EMS calls, 56 motor vehicle accidents, and 13 structure fires. At least one motor vehicle accident was responded to in every month of 2024.
Also of note, resident Anna Frederickson’s passion for cleaning up the village is still burning as bright as ever. She spoke again at the most recent Village Board meeting – as she did at several recent meetings – regarding code enforcement violations and properties not being adequately maintained.
“I’m here again. At my age, you’d think I’d stay home,” joked Frederickson, 84.
Frederickson expressed her frustration with the Town of Hanover Justice Court with violators of the Village’s code often avoiding penalties. She stated that the Town Justices often do not prosecute many of the code violations.
“People who break our codes in this village have no idea of the consequences that they should have,” Frederickson said.
Frederickson later stressed the importance of following the Village’s codes. She stated, “They were put there for the district reason of keeping this village in line, making it look halfway decent. That’s not what’s going on now.”
Mayor Jeff Hornburg stated the Village has had discussions with the Town of Hanover about how to proceed with prosecuting code violations. Members of the Village Board later thanked Frederickson for her comments.
The Village was also recently approached by the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce regarding coordinating the Village’s annual yard sale. Hornburg stated he is interested in keeping the tradition going under the Village’s direction, including the annual scholarships funded by the event. The Village also remains interested in a day with the Jamestown Tarp Skunks to honor Howard Ehmke, tentatively scheduled for Sunday, July 13.
The next Mobile Food Pantry event, sponsored by the Silver Creek Food Pantry, the Village of Silver Creek, and Feedmore WNY, will be on Tuesday, April 29 from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the village municipal parking lot. The event is free of charge to residents of Silver Creek and other nearby communities.
The next regular meeting of the Silver Creek Village Board is Monday, May 5 at 7 p.m. at the Village Hall.
