FORESTVILLE — Norbert R. Smith, 84, of Center Street, Forestville, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017 at the Absolut Care of Dunkirk. He was born in Gowanda, on Nov. 30, 1932, the son of the late Richard F. and Ida (Single) Smith.
Mr. Smith served 2 terms in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as a custodian for the Sweet Home School District, Amherst, for 20 years. Surviving are a “son” with whom he lived: James (Paula) Knoop, Sr. of Forestville, “grandchildren” James Jr., Jordan, Jeffery, Robert & Zachary, “great-grandchildren” Scarlet & Silas, Hayleigh & Nathan, 2 nephews: Gordon & Darwin Waite and a niece Gerry Waite. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by 2 sisters Hazel E. Waite, Ethel I. Krawczyk and “granddaughter” Cassandra Knoop.
There will be no prior visitation observed. Funeral Services will be held from Thursday morning, Nov. 30 at 11 o’clock from Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville, with the Rev. Bruce Ellis, pastor of the Forestville Wesleyan Church, officiating. Military Services will be conducted by members of the Dunkirk Joint Veteran’s Council in the funeral home. Private interment will be at the convenience of the family in Forestville Cemetery.
