George G. Grover
George G. Grover died on March 7th, 2020 in Clearwater, Florida.
Mr. Grover was the son of Glenn A. and Elizabeth “Betty” (Arnold) Grover, who were residents of Ripley, Westfield, Fredonia, and Dunkirk, NY. He was born in Erie, PA in 1940. George attended the Fredonia Normal School (“Old Main”) and graduated from Fredonia High School in 1958. He attended Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH and graduated from State University of New York Fredonia.
Mr. Grover was employed by George Bentges Distributing in Silver Creek, Pabst Brewing Co., Milwaukee, WI, and had a 20-year career with the SUNY Fredonia University Police Department, ultimately retiring as Assistant Director of the Dept of Public Safety, University Police in 1991. Mr. Grover moved to Las Vegas, NV and became the Director of Security and Safety for Alexis Park Resort & Spa, again retiring in 2006 to Charlottesville, VA.
Mr. Grover always had a dedication to community involvement and served as a Member and Chairman of the Village of Fredonia Planning Board. He served as Chairman of the first Fredonia Republican Committee when the Village of Fredonia transitioned from local independent parties to National Party candidate endorsements. He was a Member and President of the Fredonia Jaycees, NYS Leadership Dynamics Chairman, and was honored as a life-long member of the JCI Senate. He was also a member of the Dunkirk Methodist Church. In Las Vegas, Mr. Grover belonged to civic, professional security, and safety organizations; he sponsored an annual Christmas Toy Drive to collect toys for needy families in the area. After retirement, he became an avid genealogist and Civil War enthusiast, having found his great grandfather Orrin A. Grover, who served two tours of duty in the 9th NYV Calvary Co. I (Westfield Calvary) during the Civil War.
Mr. Grover is survived by his daughters, Melissa (Jon) Leiski of Richmond, VA and Amanda (Brodie) Rich of Boston, MA. He is also survived by his wife, Pamela Deal of Largo, FL and two step children, Jason Deal of Boulder, CO and Amanda (Deal) DeJesus of Charlottesville, VA. He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Glenn and Elizabeth Grover, infant twins Jeffrey and Jennifer, his sister Carol (Grover) Maggio/ Hurley of Olean, NY, and brother Edward Grover of Melbourne, FL and Hebron, OH.
No services are planned, and the family only asks for a moment of silent prayer. Donations may be made in his name to the Darwin R. Barker Historical Museum in Fredonia, NY so that we may all remember the past in order to see the future.
