Phyllis B. Schrantz, 84, of Fredonia passed away Sunday afternoon (July 12, 2020) after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born April 1, 1936, in Dunkirk, the daughter of the late William and Veronica (Wyszynski) Rohr.
A lifelong area resident, Phyllis was a graduate of Dunkirk High School, Class of 1955. She married James M. Schrantz in Saint Mary’s Church in Dunkirk on November 24, 1955. He preceded her in death on March 26, 2001, after 45 years of marriage. She retired from Dunkirk Ice Cream Co. in 1998 after 26 years of service.
Phyllis was a dedicated mother, grandma and great grandma who would enjoy making cookies for special occasions along with arts and crafts for the holidays.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia (Rohr) O’Brocta.
Survivors include one daughter, Deborah (Ronald) Schrantz-Freid of Henderson, Nev.; three sons: James Schrantz Jr. of Dunkirk, and Phillip (Stacey) Schrantz and Timothy (Connie) Schrantz, both of Fredonia; nine grandchildren, Gretchen (Skylar), Amy (Tony), Brian, Kevin, Morgan, Matthew, Amanda, Alissa, and Adam; seven great-grandchildren: Grace Monroe, Lillian, Leionna, Landen, Jordan, Cooper, and Jacob; one nephew, Frank; and one niece Christine.
Following the guidelines and protocols administered by the Governor of New York, family and friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2020, at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home where a memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday. Deacon Michael C. Lemieux will officiate. Burial will be in Willowbrook Park Cemetery.
