Mary (Margie) Dworak
Mary (Margie) Dworak, died Sunday, December 20, 2020 at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mary was born in Dunkirk on Nov. 25, 1926, the daughter of the late Catherine and Karl Mleczko.
On July 8, 1950 Mary and Leonard Dworak were united in marriage at St. Hyacinth’s Church. Leonard passed away Jan. 16, 1987.
Mary was an employee of Van Raalte till their closing. She was then employed at Brooks Hospital supervising the cafeteria. In 1985 Mary was the recipient of the First Humanitarian Award. The corporate office receiving over 400 nominations. Quotations from Brooks Hospital ” If Brooks has an award for Mrs. Congeniality our 1985 First Award winner would be Mary. She had a kind word for everyone.
Mary retired from Brooks Hospital May 1, 1989 after 28 years of service. Mary was a member of the Holy Rosary Society of St. Hyacinth’s Church and the Senior Center in Dunkirk.
Survivors include her sister, Nancy (John) Woloszyn; her beloved nieces, Charlotte (Tom) McDonnell, Karla (Joe) Strefeler, and Debbie Kuzma; nephews, Keith Mleczko, Tom (Dana) Mleczko, David (Pat), Mike (Lori), Patrick (Patti) Mleczko’s; love of her life, grand nieces, Rylee, and Emersyn Strefeler, Kristen and Jennifer Kuzma; grand-nephews, T.J., Jason (Kate) McDonnell, Zach, Josh, Luke Mleczkos, Mike Jr. Mleczko, Lisa (Anthony) Mason, Delon.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Josephine Kuzma, Dorothy Pleva, and Genevieve Mleczko; brothers, Frank, Alfred, and Anthony Mleczko; niece, Linda Coornadt; and nephews, James Kuzma and Gary Pleva.
Following the guidelines and protocols administered by the governor of New York, family and friends may call from 3-6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 22, at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m. in St. Hyacinth’s Church. Burial will be in St. Hyacinth’s Cemetery.
