Pamela M. Westman

Pamela M. Westman, 75, passed away at the Chau-tauqua Nursing and Reha-bilitation Center on Mon-day, Jan. 11, 2021 after a lengthy battle with demen-tia and complications due to COVID-19. She was born on Aug. 23, 1945, the daughter of the late Frank and Stefania (nee Zapor) Gabalac.

A lifelong and voracious learner, Pam earned de-grees in English, nursing, and women’s studies. She was employed as a re-gistered nurse at Brooks Memorial Hospital for 15 years and was an educator and guest speaker for the hospital’s Percept Program with JCC students. Pam was a friend to the Christo-pher Wellness Center, now known as the Circle of Love, and was essential to the program’s networking in its early years. She also served as secretary of the local chapter of the Ameri-can Association of Univer-sity Women.

A member of Holy Trini-ty Church since 1980, she loved music and found many friendships and a sense of community singing in the church choir.

While her children were young, Pam volunteered as a bowling coach at Lucky Lanes and enjoyed bowling in the Thursday night ladies league for many years. She was a skilled painter, an avid crafter, and loved par-ticipating in book club with her friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Angela, and her hus-band, Shel Westman, whom she married on Aug. 27, 1966.

She is survived by her children, Jonathan (Erin) Westman of Ocean City, Md., Jarred (Megan) West-man of Willoughby, Ohio, Marjorie (Andy) Bohn of Dunkirk, and Stefanie (Da-vid Monroe) Westman of Buffalo and her loving grandchildren, Jeremy, Evelyn, Marencia, Kathryn, Parker, Ella, and Chloe.

Above all else, Pam was completely devoted to her family. She was a proud and dedicated mother and grandmother. She delighted in sharing their pictures and accomplishments with friends and neighbors. Pam loved shopping and cook-ing for her family and cher-ished time together for any occasion. She will be pro-foundly missed.

A private funeral service will be held at Holy Trinity Church in Dunkirk, and burial will take place at Willowbrook Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that dona-tions be made in Pam’s memory to the American Alzheimer’s Association or the Fredonia Literacy Volunteers.

Arrangements are by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
