Edward T. Kurtz Sr.

Edward T. Kurtz Sr., 80, of 26 Cass St., Westfield, formerly a lifelong resident of Brocton and Portland, N.Y., died peacefully on Aug. 30, 2021. He was born in Brocton, N.Y., on April 3, 1941, the son of Elias T. and Anita (Trost) Kurtz.

Edward loved local history, writing several books on the historical aspects of Brocton and Portland specifically. He would often speak with locals on the history, and was always looking to find new things to learn. He also enjoyed antiques, traveling to find the rare or unusual.

He worked for 20 years at the Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, and he and his wife. Patricia (Judge) owned and operated antique shops in both Brocton and Portland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elias T. and Anita (Trost) Kurtz; his wife, Patricia (Judge) Kurtz; and his brothers: William, Theodore; and his favorite sister, Kay.

He is survived by his brother, James Kurtz of Mayville, N.Y.; his son, Edward T. Kurtz Jr. of Jamestown, N.Y., and George Kurtz of Westfield, N.Y.; and has several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be scheduled at a later date, and memorial donations can be made to the town of Portland Historical Museum.
