VERSAIllES — Ruth Marie Westlund, 91, o f Versailles, N.Y., passed away, Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021, at ECMC, Buffalo, N.Y.
She was born April 5, 1930, in Perrysburg, N.Y., loving daughter of Edward Sr. and Isabelle (Snyder) Sprague. On June 28, 1947, she married Adrian (Ade) Westlund Jr. who predeceased her Oct. 18, 2015.
Ruth was a member of the Versailles United Methodist Church, Versailles Community Association and former trustee of the Versailles Cemetery Association.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grand-mother and great-great- grandmother. She also loved her little dog, Sam.
She is survived by four daughters: Jody (Don Clark) Shaw, Judith (Carl) Forbes, Marjorie (Greg) Griffin and Amanda “Amy” (Ty Wheeler) Hilliker and one son, Adrian (Grundy) Westlund III, all of Versailles. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Her brother, Myrton “Moe” (Marjorie) Sprague of Irving N.Y. and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides her loving husband of 68 years, she was predeceased by two brothers: Edward “Ted” (late Verna) Sprague and Kenneth (late Phyllis) Florence Sprague. She was also predeceased by a sister, Evelyn (late Milton “Moe”) Maines.
She loved her greenhouses and was proud of her many gardens. She also enjoyed watching the many birds in her lawn. She knew them all and encouraged her children to enjoy the bountiful gifts of nature.
Ruth enjoyed country music especially enjoyed making music with her family publically “The Old Apple Tree in the Orchard” and around summer campfires “May the Circle Be Unbroken”.
Friends may call at Mentley’s Funeral Home Inc. 105 E. Main St., Gowanda. Monday Nov. 1, 2021. from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021, at 2 p.m. from the funeral home.
As per family request MASKS ARE MANDATORY for the visitation and funeral services.
Burial will be in Verailles Cemetery.
Pastor David Rood will be officiating the service.
