Karlene Sue Gustafson

She was born Oct. 23, 1944, in Dyersburg, Tenn., the daughter of the late C. Fred Gustafson and Beatrice Burroughs.

Karlene was a 1962 graduate of Jamestown High School and then attended Geneseo College and Indiana University in Bloomington, IN where she earned a Master’s Degree in Education and Library Science. She then worked as a School Librarian and Media Specialist in Greece, NY, on the Island of Guam, Memmonie, MI, and Westfield Academy and Central School.

She was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi, Westfield Union Relief, past member of American Association of University Women, the Westfield Community Chorus, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mayville where she served on the Vestry and was a member of several golf leagues including Lakeside Golf Course in Ripley, NY, Chautauqua Point Golf Club, and Pinehurst Golf Club.

Karlene enjoyed golfing, cooking, traveling, reading and entertaining friends.

She is survived by a step-brother; Peter (Brenda) Holl of Mayville, NY, two step nieces; Colleen (Billy) Klenz of North East, PA and Celeste (Adam) Pieper of Edinboro, PA, two great step nieces; Hallie Klenz and Cecilia Pieper, two cousins; Tom (Julie) Brown, and Laurie (Gary) Josephson, her church family and many good friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister; Priscilla Costello and a cousin; Barry Brown.

A memorial service will be held at 11a.m., on July 16, 2022, at St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mayville, NY (99 S. Erie St). Father Richard Elberfeld will officiate.
