Julie Elizabeth (Corsoro) Ensminger, sister, daughter, aunt, niece, cousin, friend, nurse, and so much more, passed away on Oct. 20, 2022, in North Chesterfield, Va.
Born July 15, 1982, in Dunkirk, N.Y., Julie was the daughter of Pamela (Tworek) Corsoro (friend Jim Wilmoth) of Dunkirk, N.Y., and Frank Corsoro (Linda Lutes) of Midlothian, Va.
Julie graduated from Dunkirk Senior High School in 2001. Following graduation she attended technical training school and become a certified machinist. She worked for Moog Inc. in East Aurora for five years in the Space and Defense Group as a Centre Lathe Turner/ Manual Turner.
Julie then made a career pivot and chose to follow her mother and two of her aunts into the nursing profession. She first attained an Associates in Applied Science degree in nursing at Trocaire College in Buffalo, N.Y., and continued on to complete her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She passed her New York State Licensure Exam in 2016 and began working as a registered nurse in the home health care field.
Julie relocated to Virginia in 2020. While her nursing license was on hold, she found employment with International Paper as a machine operator and eventually at the Waffle House on Midlothian Turnpike. Her work family there recently held a touching candlelight memorial vigil that her family was blessed to attend.
Family relationships were a central part of Julie’s life. In addition to her parents, Julie is survived by two sisters: Carrie (Richard) Beary of Blairsville, Ga., and Christie (fiance, Charlie Vitchers) Corsoro of Alexandria, Va; and one brother, Michael (Mirelys) Corsoro of Richmond, Va. She is also survived by her aunts: Darlene (Fred) Schrantz of Springville, N.Y., Kathryn (Kenneth) Ahlstrom Jr. of Dunkirk, N.Y., and Virginia (Dennis) Towne of Williston, N.D.; and her uncle, George Corsoro of St. Petersburg, Fla. In addition her closelyknit family includes first cousins: Sarah (Murphy) Lytle of Memphis, Tenn., Matthew Schrantz of Albany, N. York; Andrew Corsoro an of St. Petersburg, Florida. Y., and Dylan Leone of Denver, Colo. She is also survived by two nieces: Emily Waite of Blairsville, Ga,, and Brooklyn Corsoro of Richmond, Va., a nephew, Cameron Corsoro of Richmond, Va.. Julie’s former husband, Brad Ensminger, whom she met at Moog Inc. and remained close to, also survives.
Julie was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Matthew and Alice (Tworek) Scrantz of Dunkirk, and her paternal grandparents, George and Florence (VandeVelde) Corsoro of Dunkirk; and first cousin, Susan (Schrantz) Griffin of Springfield, Va.
Julie grew to become an avid reader who delighted in a variety of genres. She also enjoyed baking and loved her exotic cats, among them two Persians named Oscar and Wookie, a domestic shorthair named Marble, a domestic longhair named Chuck, and a Russian Blue named Castro. Although her favorite football player was Tom Brady, she stayed true to Corsoro family tradition and followed the Buffalo Bills.
Julie’s family has made a donation in her memory to Kids Escaping Drugs, whose treatment campus in West Seneca, N.Y., includes Stepping Stones, a residential facility for young adult and adolescent women. Donations there are a way for us all to share our compassion and love for those in need, and would be greatly appreciated by Julie’s family.
Julie will be returned to her hometown of Dunkirk, N.Y., where a Mass will be celebrated on Nov. 12, 2022, at 9 a.m. at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, followed by a celebration of life at the Kosciuszko Polish Home, both in Dunkirk.
