Dr. Harold H. (Buck) Roeder 87, of Winterville, NC, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on April 17, 2023. A Celebration of Life will be held on April 29th at 4:00pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home and Cematory, 2100 E. Fifth St. Greenville, NC. Immediately following, a reception will be held in Harold’s honor at the Roeder/Garafolo home, 1703 Brompton Court in Greenville. Harold was born on November 21, 1935, to Margaret and John Henry Roeder of Buffalo, NY. He was the second youngest of 18 children. After graduating from South Park High School in 1954, Harold went on to pursue a bachelor’s degree in education from Buffalo State University. In 1958, he furthered his education, receiving two Masters Degrees, one in Education from Syracuse University and the other focused in Library Science from SUNY Geneseo. In 1968, after receiving his Ed.D. in Education from the University of New York at Buffalo, Harold went on to pursue a lifelong career as a professor in teaching. Named as a distinguished Emeritus professor at SUNY Fredonia where he taught for over 31 years in the Education Department, Harold also served as a visiting professor at the University of New York at Buffalo teaching in the Master’s of Education Department. As a longtime resident of Fredonia, he enjoyed serving for four years as a member on the Town of Pomfret Planning Board. In his younger years, Harold was an accomplished musician, playing Bass in a local Buffalo band while attending college to pay for his education. Harold is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of over 60 years, Marcia; daughter, Lynn Roeder and husband Richard Garafolo of Greenville, NC; daughter, Lisa Colen and husband Michael of Falls Church, VA; and the bright light in his life, his only grandchild, Maxwell Colen of Falls Church, VA; sister, Alice Mayo of Plano, TX; nephew, Stuart Mayo and wife Linda Michals of Overland TX; niece, Holly Lasater and husband Tim of Overland, TX; great-niece, Samantha Rose Lasater of Overland, TX; and sister-in-law, Emily Roeder of Petaluma, CA. The family wishes to recognize the overwhelming care, love, and support over these past 7 years by caregiver, Paula King. She has become a part of our family and helped care for “Mr. Buck” until his last day. They also wish to recognize the amazing care by Hospice and Harold’s caregivers Mo and Lady, along with Dr. Robin Adams, his long-time general practitioner.
