Melissa N. Buchanan “Meliss”

Melissa was born on November 13, 1977 in Dunkirk, NY, to Gladys Lockett and Horace Buchanan. She graduated from Dunkirk, High School and went on to be employed for over 15 Years at Fredonia State University, in custodial services. She loved her job and her co-workers dearly.

Melissa enjoyed following her daily routine, listening to reggae music, shopping, and spending time at home. She was very hard working and took great pride in the upkeep of her home. Spending time with her family at home brought her the most peace. She also devoted her time and energy as a caregiver to her family. Her smile enlightened everyone at any given moment.

Melissa was a devoted mother and is survived by her children, Damian Buchanan, China DeJesus, Cam’ron DeJesus, and stepson, Charles (Jimmy) DeJesus II. She is also survived by both of her parents. She was especially close to her amazing mother and best friend, Gladys Lockett. Melissa absolutely adored her grandson, Jaevion Buchanan. She is survived by her granddaughter, Charleigh DeJesus. Melissa held a special place in her heart for her great nephew, Nicholas Smith. She was a loving sister to Christy Buchanan and treasured Aunt to Diamond, Shavon, and Ky’Juan. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Melissa was predeceased by her loving grandmother, Elizabeth Lockett and Uncles, Johnny Lockett and David Thomas.

Relatives and friends are welcomed to join us for services to be held at the FANTAUZZI FUNERAL HOME, 82 East Main Street, Fredonia, NY. Calling hours will be held from 3:00-5:00 PM on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

Immediately following the closing prayers, a 6:00 PM reception will be held at the Conservation Club, 1 North Mullet Street, in Dunkirk, NY.
