Pattra W. Mattox

Pattra W. Mattox, 46, Dec. 18, 1976–June 30, 2023, died peacefully Friday evening after a courageous battle with Cancer. Originally from Fredonia, NY, Pattra moved to Boston after college and to Ipswich in January 2010, where she and her husband have been raising their family.

Pattra is survived by her husband Brad, her two beautiful sons, Miles and Cameron, her parents Sawarngwong and Chodchoy Wirojratana, sisters Nitida (Darrin) Paschke, Lisa Wirojratana of Fredonia, NY and Surachara (Fred) Wirojratana-Moreira from Malverne, NY, along with her nieces Dana, Alena, Chloe and Abigail.

She studied Biochemistry at SUNY Fredonia and received a Masters in Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health before embarking on a wonderful career at Outcome Sciences, Aetion and most recently Alnylam Pharmaceuticals. She also worked at the BU Medical Center and the Harvard Clinical Research Institute.

Pattra was proud of her Western NY roots. She loved books, coffee, running, live music, karaoke jams at home, going dancing with friends and dreamt of being a DJ, accomplishing this goal at her Miles’ fifth grade mixer. She cherished the time spent with her boys, cheering them (and the other team) on in sporting events, family ski runs at Attitash, finding needed pieces in a sea of legos, watching Marvel movies and Bruins games and family vacations to Lake George, Maine Lakes, Florida, the White Mountains and Western NY.

She was most at peace in nature. She believed in the healing powers of trees, mountains and water and enjoyed walking along the trails and seaside in Ipswich and in the mountains of NH. Meditation was a daily ritual that helped her be present, recognize and appreciate beauty and bring her calmness. She engaged in deep conversations, cared genuinely for others and will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

For those wishing to pay their respect to Pattra and her family, calling hours will take place at Morris Funeral Home, 45 North Main Street, Ipswich, MA on Friday, July 7th from 6-8pm. A private ceremony for the family will take place at the Boston Buddha Vararam Temple. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, cancer.org, in her honor.
