Charles E. Dankert
Charles E. Dankert, 81, of Fredonia, N.Y., died Tuesday October 17, 2023 at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie, PA.
He was born July 2, 1942, son of the late Robert F. and Alzina A. (Draggett) Dankert. Raised in Fredonia, Charlie was a graduate of Fredonia Central School. He was a Viet Nam War Veteran serving in the United States Army from April 1964 to April 1966. Charlie worked at Niagara Therapy for a time and then worked as an equipment operator for the Town of Pomfret Highway Dept. He also was a constable for the Town of Pomfret Police and owned ten acres of Concord Grapes. On October 14, 1972 he married Mary Jane Luczkowiak in Fredonia. The couple just celebrated their 51 wedding anniversary.
He was active in several organizations in the area including: The Growers Co-Operative Grape Juice Co. Inc., Westfield N.Y., Fredonia Memorial American Legion Post 59, Forest Masonic Lodge 166 F & A M and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 118, Westfield, N.Y.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Dankert; two sons: Brian C. (Karen) Dankert and Bradley E. Dankert; three grandchildren: Tucker R., Kinsey A. and Zeke B. Dankert and several aunts and uncles.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by and a brother, Wayne Dankert.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 4-7 pm at the LARSON-TIMKO Funeral Home, 20 Central Avenue, Fredonia, where funeral services will be held Monday at 11 am. Interment, with full Military Honors accorded by the Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council, will take place at the Webster Cemetery. A Masonic service, under the auspices of Forest Lodge 166 F & A M, will be held Sunday at 6 pm.
