Elizabeth (Betty) Klawon

Elizabeth (Betty) Klawon, 94, of Fredonia, passed away on Jan. 21, 2024, at Absolut Westfield. She was born on Dec 26, 1929 in Williamsville, NY. She was the daughter of the late Johanna and Charles Friedman.

Following graduation from Williamsville High School she worked as a long distance operator at New York Telephone Company in Buffalo, New York. She married the love of her life, the late Raymond (Ray) Klawon on October 14, 1950 and they moved to Fredonia the same year. Elizabeth stayed home while raising the children and returned to work at the Telephone company in Dunkirk until retirement.

Elizabeth was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, the Dunkirk Senior Center and the Fredonia Share and Care Seniors, Home Bureau, Niagara Mohawk Retirees Club and the Friendly 36 card club. She had many talents and hobbies. She was a seamstress, enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and quilting. She loved to paint with acrylics, water colors, pen & ink, and chalks. Her passion was porcelain doll making and painting these dolls. Elizabeth taught many to make and paint their own dolls. She enjoyed music, going to the theatre stage performances, attending and watching baseball and football games with her husband and family. She loved to travel, the highlights being Hawaii, cruises to various Caribbean Islands with friends and to visit family in Florida, Mississippi and Indiana and she enjoyed the senior bus trips.

Elizabeth is remembered by her family, friends and all who met her as someone who always smiled and always gave the best hugs. She had a love of God and her faith, family and friends and saw each day as a gift. Anytime she was asked how she was, she responded “I’m great! I thank God everyday for this new day!” She was a very determined and resilient lady, never giving up when faced with challenges.

Elizabeth is survived by her children Joanne (Klawon) Provenzano of Evansville, Indiana, Carole Klawon of Fredonia and Raymond (Joyce) Klawon of Evansville, Indiana, Grandchildren Natalie Provenzano (Michael) Siebers, Amanda Provenzano (Ryan) Leeds, and Nathan (Sandra) Davis all of Evansville, Indiana. She is also survived by her 6 great grandchildren Sarah Siebers, Macie Leeds, Savannah Siebers, Kyle Davis, Ava Leeds and Cora Davis, all of Evansville, Indiana.

Besides her parents and husband, Elizabeth was predeceased by her son-in-law, Gary Provenzano, several aunts and uncles, and a brother Charles Friedman. There will be a celebration of Elizabeth’s life at Holy Trinity Church in Dunkirk, New York on April 6, 2024 at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fredonia Fire Department, 80 W. Main Street Fredonia, NY 14063 or the Lakeshore Humane Society, 431 E Chestnut Street Dunkirk, NY 14063.
