Kathleen Marie (Wollaston) Wise
Kathleen Marie (Wollaston) Wise, 54, of Cassadaga, died August 31st surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Originally from Fredonia, NY, she was born on July 28,1970, at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, NY.
She attended the Wheelock School and the Fredonia Middle and High Schools. After school, she embarked on a life-long career of service to others. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy which led to a career in skilled nursing, specializing in geriatric care. During her time in nursing, she often advocated for patient rights and better care. She became a champion for the underdog. When injury kept her from giving her best care to her dear nursing residents, she transitioned to working as a catering manager at the Buster Brown Bean Company on the SUNY Fredonia campus. From there she went on to help develop the Five Guys franchise in Western New York and then ultimately to Arby’s in Dunkirk, closer to home, as assistant manager.
In addition to her professional career, Kathleen was a career mom to two wonderful daughters, Kaitlin Marie Trippy of Stockton, NY and Kristin Ann Wise of Cassadaga, NY. She was also the devoted and fun-loving spouse to the equally dedicated and jovial Frederick Wise. Although they rooted for different football teams, she for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he for the Buffalo Bills, they found common ground and enjoyed a long and happy marriage at their home in “Cassalaska.”
Kathleen also served her community. She was a member of the Cassadaga Fire Department Auxiliary, served on charitable committees, participated in local fundraisers for others in need, and supported many causes far and wide, including the American Cancer Society and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Aside from her husband and daughters, Kathleen is survived by her parents, Katherine (Lydon) Wollaston and Daniel Alan Wollaston, her brother Gregory Scott Wollaston, several nieces and nephews, cousins and hosts of friends and dear ones too numerous to count.
She was preceded in death by her parents-in-law, Patricia and Kenneth Wise, brother-in-law Rodney Wise, grandparents, Sarah Jane (Gregory) and Dorrel Avery “Pop-Pop” Wollaston, Mary (Scully) “Nana” Lydon and Leo Philip Lydon; dearest great aunts Agnes (Scully) Newell, Ruby (Wollaston) Smith, Velma Bell Gregory and Godmother, Priscilla (Scully) “Pinky” Wilson.
The family would like to thank the many medical professionals, friends, and volunteers that helped to support and care for Kathleen throughout her courageous battle with cancer.
