Dolores L. (Favro) Swanson

Dolores L. (Favro) Swanson, 88, of East Amherst, formerly of Fredonia, passed away Thursday evening, November 7, 2024 at Brothers of Mercy in Clarence, NY.

Born on February 5, 1936 in Portland, NY, a longtime resident of Fredonia NY, spending the second half of her life just outside of Buffalo in East Amherst.

Dee was a graduate of the WCA hospital school of nursing. Prior to starting a family, she worked as an RN at WCA hospital and Brooks Memorial Hospital. While raising her children, she joined the family bus company as a bookkeeper at D&F Transit, and later D&F Travel.

Dee had numerous passions and talents including gardening, cooking, baking, painting, quilting, sewing, homesteading, birdwatching, reading and traveling the world. Noteworthy trips include Alaska, France, Egypt and of course her favored destination Italy. Dee was strong in her faith, a contributing member of St. Mary’s church in Swormville. Above all else, she was devoted to her family.

Mother to Richard (Dina Richardson), John (Josie Sellari), David (Linda Carlson) and Elizabeth (Jeff Hypnarowski). Lovingly referred to as Nani by eight treasured grandchildren – Lindsay (Robert), Justine, Andrew, Richard (Rachel), Tayler (Theologia), Emily, Aly and Jack – as well three great grandchildren, Benjamin, Madeline & Lincoln. She was an honored aunt to eight nieces and nephews and their families. Cherished and loved best friend to her sister Rena (Menzer) Doud.

Preceded in death by her husband John L. “Jack” in 1996 and her parents Richard and Clorinda (Porti) Favro and a sister, Maryanne Barberio.

Dolores beat many serious illnesses over her life including various cancers and heart disease but finally lost her battle with a vascular disease after a slow and painful decline.

In lieu of flowers, Please consider a Donation to American Cancer Society, Literacy Volunteers of Fredonia, Alzheimer’s Association or your local Arbor Society. For as much as Dee appreciated flowers, she would love helping out a good cause much more.

Friends and family are welcome to attend Calling Hours on Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. at McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024 at 10:30 a.m at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Fredonia. Interment in Portland Evergreen Cemetery.
