Kenneth Richard Naslund

Following a brief illness, Kenneth Richard Naslund, 94, formerly of Memory Garden in Jamestown passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

Born June 17,1930 in a house newly built by his father and grandfather on Green St in Dunkirk, Ken and his twin Kermit were the sons of the late Albert Eric and Anna Mae (Wright) Naslund. Ken would live almost his entire life in Dunkirk, enjoying many drives along Lake Erie’s shores and time spent on the pier.

Ken enlisted in the US Air Force in 1948 and served for four years, the last two fueling fighter jets, cargo and commercial planes at Kadena Air Force Base on Okinawa, Japan. Ken came from a millitary family. His father was Dunkirk’s last WWI veteran when he died in 1996 at the age of 102. All four of his brothers served. The eldest two during WWII, one in the Army and one in the Air Force, and remaining two in the Air Force during the Korean War. All five boys made it safely home.

Once home Ken studied metalurgy and was hired at Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation {later AlTech Specialty Steel) where he went to work in the metal lab until he retired nearly forty years later. Ken was a past member of American Legion Post 62 and Irondequoit Lodge No 301 F&AM.

Survivors include his daughter Karin Miller of Grantsville, MD, son Keith Naslund of Fredonia, grandson Daniel Miller of Grantsville, MD, nieces Kristine and Judith Naslund of Orchard Park, and Lisa Bell of Bend Oregon.

Besides his parents, Ken was predeceded in death by his twin brother in 1955, his wife of nearly 60 years Marlyn Jayne Kenney, his older brothers Albert Eric Naslund Jr, Theodore W Naslund, Norman A. Naslund, grandson Michael Peter Miller and son-in-law Peter H. Miller.

A private burial service will be held at a later date. At his request his body was cremated.

The family would like to thank his many caregivers at Memory Garden in Jamestown for the years that Ken was part of that community and ask that you consider a memorial gift to www.alz.org to help with Alzheimer’s and dementia research.
