Born September 14, 1935 to Rita and Paul Gernatt, beloved wife of 64 years to the late Werner Stang; loving mother Jean (Phillip) Terrano, Mary (Jeffrey Sr.) Cooke, Karl (Marcia), Paul (Maria), Anton (Luyine), Daniel (Nicole), Susan (Bruce) Bowman, Richard (Terri) and Patricia (Ronald Jr.) Wittmeyer.

Devoted grandmother of Matthew Terrano, James “Cap” (Cady) Cooke, Jane (Cody) Smith, Amanda (Lucas) Dackowsky, Laura (Kyle) Schultz, Katie and Megan Stang, Elizabeth “Libby” (Thomas) Patterson, Rebecca, Erika, and Ethan Stang, Hayley and Daniel Stang, Sara (Ryan) Seward, Kevin Bowman, Eric (Mary) Bowman, Emily and Beth Stang, Katherine, Megan, Gretchen, and Nicholas Wittmeyer.

Loving great-grandmother of eight. Survived by brother Joseph “Duffer” (Jenny) Gernatt, sisters Joyce Kehr, RoseMarie (Robert) Butzer, Mary Richmond, Annette (John) Noto, Bernadette Folts and Diane (Stephen) Woloszyn, sisters-in-law Annette and Elaine Gernatt, and Sr. Lucina Stang, OSF, and brothers-in-law, Norbert Gabel and Harold Butzer. Predeceased by granddaughter, Kristen Stang, brothers Paul “Digger” and Arthur Gernatt; sisters Rita Gabel, Theresa Butzer, Suzanne Niefergold and Joan Schuster; brothers-in-law Martin Niefergold, Charles Richmond and Merton Folts, sister-in-law, Rosemarie Angermeier and her husband Anthony.

Olive was a friend to all and a mentor to many. She graduated from college with a bachelors degree in home economic education, and taught at Forestville High School for a brief time before starting a family and devoting herself to raising children and operating a dairy farm with her husband.

Calling hours are at Mentley Funeral Home, 105 E. Main St., Gowanda on Thursday, November 21 from 3-7 p.m.

Funeral Mass on Friday, November 22 at 11 AM at Saint Joseph’s Church Gowanda, please assemble at church.
