Ottomar “Otto” Schroeder
Ottomar “Otto” Schroeder, 76, of Dunkirk, NY passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on December 12, 2024.
He was born on August 16, 1948 in Landkirchen, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany to Hans and Henrietta Schroeder.
Otto was an incredibly hardworking man his entire life who dedicated 35 years to GE transportation in Erie, Pennsylvania where he helped build locomotives.
Aside from the last 16 years of enjoying retirement with his beautiful wife of 44 years, his favorite pastimes include spending time with his family, camping, sneaking away for an ice cream and ALWAYS had time for a coffee and good conversation. If anyone had the pleasure of enjoying time with him, they knew he had a warmness about him that was so inviting and welcoming, an infectious deep laugh, and he was always there anytime anyone needed him. He made everyone around him feel like family.
He took deep pride in being a husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Otto will be remembered fondly for his strong-willed nature and the resilience he demonstrated throughout his life, particularly as he faced his illness with remarkable strength and grace.
He is survived by his loving wife Janine, their children Scott Schroeder, Charles (Jessica) Schroeder, Rick (Jessica) Biddlecom, Jesse (Kelly) Biddlecom and Stephanie (Jason) Guziec; his 15 grandchildren, Savanna, Ella, Madisyn, Kiersten, Landen, Alex, Zach, Triston, Alexandria, Mackenzie, Willow, Lilliannah, Kaleb, Kaiden and Dryden; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of life to be announced at a later date.
