Steven E. Leach

WESTFIELD – Steven E. Leach, 70, of Westfield, NY passed away peacefully, Sunday, December 29, 2024, in Buffalo General Medical Center following a brief illness.

Steve was born July 16, 1954, in Westfield, NY, the son of the late Wilson H. and Violet R. (Hess) Leach.

Steve earned his high school diploma at Westfield Academy and Central School and went on to serve his country proudly with the United States Air Force. He earned the rank as Sergeant and was stationed in Taiwan, Greece, and Minot, North Dakota as a military police officer. When he was honorably discharged in 1980, he returned home and began his career with the village of Westfield with their street’s division retiring after 25 plus years as a working foreman.

Following retirement, he continued his morning tradition and could be found at Crosby’s at 5am getting his morning coffee before going to his many custodial jobs at Larry’s Cantina, the Tap Room, just to name a few, and then going off to utilize his steady hand painting a house, business, or whatever he lined up for any given day.

Steve was a member of the American Legion and VFW of Westfield and past governor of the Westfield Moose Lodge.

For those that were fortunate enough to know Steve, you know how blessed you were. Any time anyone needed anything he never hesitated. Need a ride? Hop in. Need something fixed? Let me get my tools. Need a place to sleep? Here’s my couch. Need some cash? Here’s my last $20. He was one of the kindest individuals in the world and he loved everyone, he never had an ill word to say about anyone. He fought a long battle with cancer and beat it, however, Steve couldn’t beat the recent battle with Covid and pneumonia.

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his brother Wilson “Bill” Leach, sisters Sharon Seiter and Shirley Sanderson.

Left behind to cherish his memories are his beloved children Nicole (Dan Tillberg) Leach and James Leach, sisters Sandra Leach and Lynnell Ellis, brother-in-law, James Sanderson, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Per Steve’s wishes, funeral services will be held privately with burial at Portland Evergreen Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded.

Memorial contributions in honor of Steve can be made to; Roswell Park Alliance Foundation, PO Box 631, Buffalo, NY 4240.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Morse Funeral Home of Brocton, NY.
