Glenda Sue Walker-Blake
Glenda Sue Walker-Blake, 65 of Jamestown, N.Y., died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025 at 6 a.m. in UPMC Chautauqua, Jamestown, NY.
She was born July 5, 1959, in Jamestown, N.Y., the daughter of the late Samuel L. and Corrine Copeland Walker.
She graduated from Jamestown High School and earned a bachelor degree in criminal justice from the State University at Fredonia.
She had been employed by the YWCA, Jamestown Public Schools and retired from Jamestown Community College.
Along with her husband, she founded the Emmanuel Baptist Youth Group, the Emmanuel Baptist Tutoring Group, the Emmanuel Baptist Science Fair, the Emmanuel Baptist Somebody Loves You Thanksgiving Dinners, the Emmanuel Baptist Career Day at City Hall and the Emmanuel Baptist Youth and Police Basketball Game, which the police cheated at by holding the kids but which the kids and parents enjoyed every year.
She was a devoted member of Emanuel Baptist Church. Sue was a member of the choir and also served as choir director. She was a Sunday School teacher and served as Sunday School, superintendent. She also served as a deaconess. Sue also created the Prayer Warriors a group the has touched people all over the world.
Sue served her community well. She was a board member of Joint Neighborhood Project (JNP). Sue was also YWCA Woman of the Year. Sue and her husband served as Exchange Students host with a young man from France, Alex, whom they also still-in touch with.
Sue enjoyed community outreach, watching wrestling and UFC, playing the piano and tambourine, singing and listening to music sitting on her porch, working with children, taking rides to look at nature, the New York Mets and crocheting. Most of all she loved her family and her grandpup, Memphis.
She is survived by her husband, Keith Blake whom she married Sept. 15, 1984; two daughters Keishia Blake of Tarryown NY and Madison Walker Blake of Jamestown NY; her exchange son Alex Vouillot of France and her grandpup, Memphis Blake of Tarrytown NY; two sisters: Sallie (Robert Donaldson) Walker and Brenda (Patrick) Bunce both of Jamestown NY; and two brothers Rev. Leroy (Debbie) Walker of Jamestown NY and Jerry (Theresa) Walker of Oneonta NY and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by brother Leary Walker; her beloved nephew, Kareem Walker and her great-nephew, Karee Walker.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 53 West 23rd Street, Jamestown, N.Y. Friends and family will be received from 4-8p.m. on Monday, Feb. 10, 2025 at Lind’s Funeral Home, 805 West Third Street, Jamestown, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church.
