Brittany Barnard, 59, of Buffalo, NY, formerly of Van Buran Bay, passed away at Kenmore Mercy Hospital in Buffalo April 17, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born July 27, 1965 in Dunkirk, NY, daughter of Betty (Cullinan) Barnard of Van Buren Bay, and the late Tristram Barnard. Brittany attended elementary school in Fredonia and graduated from Fredonia High School in the class of 1983. She attended Fredonia State University and Erie County Community College. Brittany also served in the United States Air Force in the early 1990s. She worked for a number of years in restaurants and nursing homes. Her most recent employment was at New York State Insurance Company in Buffalo until she became ill.
Brittany is survived by her mother, Betty Barnard; one brother, Caleb (Marie Sena) Barnard; and five sisters, Deborah Barnard-Ray (Lamar), Sheryl Barnard-DeShong (Robert), Susan Barnard-Griffith (Robert deceased), Meredeth Barnard-Panasci (Tom) and Caldwell Barnard-Proper (Jason); four nieces, Jessica Griffith, Katherine Pananci, Finn Proper and Elowen Proper; 11 nephews, Michael, Timothy, and Daniel Daly, Branton, Nathan, and Evan De Shong, Joey, William, and Thomas Barnard, Jacob Pananci, and Boone Proper; as well as many grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
In addition to her father, Brittany is predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Katherine and Aaron Barnard; her maternal grandparents, William and Lillian Cullinan; and two brothers, Tristram “Scott” Barnard and Aaron Carr Barnard.
Our family is so grateful to Brittany’s friend since second grade, Jennifer Cassidy, for all her care and support to Brittany during her long illness.
As per Brittany’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service.
