Corrine Heid

On March 28, 2025, just 11 days shy of her 99th birthday, we lost our beloved mother and greatest cheerleader, Corrine Virginia Aretz Heid. She was born on April 8, 1926, to William and Virginia (Murray) Aretz in Tarentum, PA. She graduated from Tarentum High School in June 1943 and from Grace Martin’s Secretarial School in Pittsburgh in June 1944.

Upon graduation, Corrine was secretary to Mr. K.C. Cunningham of SK Cunningham and Investment Co., Pittsburgh, Pa and later secretary at First Presbyterian Church in Tarentum. After moving to Latham, NY, in 1966, she served as secretary at Calvary Methodist Church for 16 years until moving to Fredonia, NY in 1980.

Corrine thoroughly enjoyed people and being involved in community activities and volunteer work. In Tarentum she was an active past president of Jr. Women’s Club and given its first honorary Lifetime membership. In Latham, she and Jim – her husband of 49 years -were leaders with the Church Youth Group for Calvary United Methodist Church. Corrine was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Fredonia where she served on various committees: Friendship Circle, Worship Committee, and the Mission Team. She was also an active member of Brooks Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for over 30 years serving as President in 1984, secretary for 2 years and program chair for 14 years. She was involved with the Fredonia Theater Project and the Opera House renovation. Corrine was a PEO member of Chapter AM in Troy, NY and later a chapter member of Chapter CE in Jamestown, NY for over 30 years. Corrine loved the theater by dancing or performing. She was an active member of the Footlighter’s at Calvary United Methodist Church and Reader’s Theater at the Renaissance (Robson Reserve) in Arizona.

Corrine loved to travel. She always said she’d rather have a chauffeur than a maid. She and Jim traveled to over half of the US states and traveled abroad at least 17 times. Additionally, there were also innumerable trips to visit her children and grandchildren. Family was very precious to her. Her love of movies built a strong bond with her grandchildren.

Corrine married James M. Heid (her high school ‘steady’) on July 3, 1948, in Tarentum Pa. They enjoyed a wonderful union of 49 years until his passing in December 2007.

Corrine was predeceased in death by her parents William and Virginia Murray Aretz, brother Bill Aretz, and sister Joann Wilson. She was also pre-

deceased by her in-laws Leon and Mary Kennedy Heid.

Corrine is survived by her three children Marcia (Rich) Dziura, John (Lucille) Heid, and Jim Heid Jr (Marty McGraw); six grandchildren Scott (Jess) Dziura, Brett (Elizabeth) Dziura, Gregory Dziura (Tess Frame), Tim (Lauren) Heid, Kevin Heid and Madison Heid; and six great-grandchildren Avery, Oliver, Quinn, Grace, Sam and Margo. All of us will miss her dearly.
