Louis Carl Habig
Louis Carl Habig, 90, peacefully earned his wings on April 3, 2025 at home with his family. Born in Cincinnati, OH on Dec. 6, 1934 to Michael Habig and Mary (Carl) Habig, he lived a full life of family, career, social events and community service.
He attended Xavier University and then Ohio State where he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. After dental school he entered the United States Navy where he served his country from 1962-1968 during the Vietnam War in Newport, Rhode Island and San Diego, California.
Upon his discharge from the Navy, Louis moved his family to Westfield where he built his dental office and practice, which he later converted into his retirement home. The Habig family made their home in Westfield, where Louis had strong social ties in the community and has been an avid hunter, volunteer and Buffalo Bills fan.
His memberships and service organizations include: Founding member of the Westfield Rail Fan Club; Life Member of VFW Post 6764; American Legion Post 327; Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 118; social member of the Brotherhood of Saint Joseph; former Westfield Volunteer Firefighter; Westfield Exempt Volunteer Firemen’s Association; Vested member of the Westfield Fish and Game Club; Lifetime Sportsman’s License; Amateur Radio Operator; Life Member of the American Dental Association, New York State Dental Association and Eighth District Dental Society; Westfield Republican Committee; Westfield-Mayville Rotary Club.
He is survived by his children, Martha (Yves) Le Cars, Theresa Evans, Patricia (Alan) Bowen, Sarah Culver, and Louis (Jessica) Habig II; sons-in law John Tritten and Andrew Culver, and daughter-in-law Adele Harrington; grandchildren Scott (Alyssa) Tritten, Mackenzi (Nick) Bruce, Ani Duffee, Arley Culver, Desiree, Christopher, and Marc Bowen. Lou is further survived by his sister-in-law Mary Habig. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Michael and sister Frances, wives Jeanne Marie (Yeates) Habig and Jacqueline Ruth (Schwab) Habig, and sons Thomas William and Michael Joseph.
Calling hours will be held Friday, April 11 at Morse Funeral Home in Brocton from 3-6 pm, with a Celebration of Life following from 6-9 at the VFW Post 6764 in Westfield, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, April 12 at 11am at St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church in Westfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lou’s name may be made to the Westfield Rail Fan Park account at Lake Shore Savings Bank or Westfield Fireman’s Exempts Association. The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to friends and extended family, Westfield Memorial Hospital and Chautauqua Area Hospice for their support during this challenging time.
