Breakfast Club meets Thursday

The New York State Breakfast Club will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at Demetris in Dunkirk. All retirees are welcome to attend.

CVCS board to meet on Thursday

SINCLAIRVILLE — A special meeting of the Cassadaga Valley Central School Board will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday in the middle-high school multipurpose room.

Sons of Legion meets tonight

BROCTON – The Sons of the American Legion, Squad 434 , will hold its monthly meeting today. The meeting is held at the Brocton Legion starting at 7 p.m. Dues for the year 2024 are due and can be paid at the Brocton Legion during business hours. All members are encouraged to attend.

Seniors meet on Halloween

Brocton-Portland Seniors met Oct. 31 at Brocton Legion. President Robin Carr opened the meeting for 58 members. Maureen Davis gave a prayer of thanks, Tom DeJoe led the Pledge of Allegiance.

New members George and Carolyn Burnett were welcomed. The committee had tables set with Halloween decor and served the catered meal from Domus Fare. Report of the secretary was read and approved by Kathy Dingledy and Rita Bennett.

Treasurer’s report was read and approved by Chuck Cichon and June Woollett. Office of the Aging Santa for Seniors program, motion was made to donate.

The nominating committee for election in November are Rita Bennett, Barb Crandall, Jane Penhollow, Clara Wilder and Tom DeJoe.

Birthdays were Bev Burton who is in Westfield Absolut, Marie Leone, Marion Delcamp, Judy Travis, Edie Seekings, Chuck Cichon, and Pauline Johnson. Ann Wood and Jan Hipwell won the door prizes . There were 10 raffle winners, 12 winners of Halloween decorations and centerpieces. The judges for the Halloween costumes were Doug Chatley, Nancy Munson and Trina Miller. There were witches, a Vegas Chick, a sailor, flashing light shirt, hats,and the Prize Winners were the Scarecrow straw Lady, Kathy Peters; Little Bo Peep, Linda Riley, and cute witch, Becky Addington. Variety abounded with no two alike.

The next meeting, Nov. 28 is a tureen. Peters will get ham to be served hot. Bring a dish to share and your own personal table service. Bingo will be played if there is no program.

United Seniors

announce update

On Oct. 9, the United Seniors met at the Kosciuszko Club, 252 Nevins St, Dunkirk. Those present enjoyed the luncheon consisting of baked pork chops, beef on weck, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables and tossed salad. The seniors said the “Pledge of Allegiance” and sang “God Bless America.” The invocation was given. Birthdays for the month of October were as follows: Carol Hawke, Nancy Jankowski, Susan Styborski.

Everyone sang “Happy Birthday. Thanks to the Kosciuszko Club for allowing the group to meet there. A huge thanks to Pat Tripp for making such delicious luncheons. Congratulations to her on her retirement. Thanks to all the kitchen staff who assisted her, and to “Linda,” a wonderful help, server and good friend. The price of the meal has increased to $15 for November. Send all monies to Evonne Hennebery, P.O. Box 706, Dunkirk, N.Y. 14048. Those that have already paid for November can pay the difference at the door, if agreed with Evonne, per conversation.

Veterans eat free this month. A big thanks to John Binko for lending the portable speaker/microphone. Bingo was led by Rosemary Mancuso, with Evonne as her helper. The menu for November will be turkey, stuffing, mixed vegetables, mashed potatoes, gravy on the side and tossed salad. Robin Carr spoke to everyone about many upcoming trips. The United Seniors always meet the second Monday of every month. The December meeting is set for Dec. 11.

Ventriloquism

set for Saturday

SINCLAIRVILLE – Chris Blakeslee of 716 Puppet Productions will be at the Sinclairville Free Library on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Blakeslee will be there with his puppet friends demonstrating how to perform ventriloquism.

The program is available to anyone age 8 and up and there is no charge for attendance. There is a very limited number of ventriloquists in the area and Chris would like to increase those numbers through education in the methods of performance. All interested persons are invited to attend, especially children over the age of eight years.

Christmas Fest

Annual Christmas Festival at Fredonia Presbyterian Church, 219 Central Ave. in Fredonia. It will be on Friday, Dec. 1 from 3:30 to 6 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 3, noon to 1 p.m. Entry and refreshments are free.
