U.S. loses tolerance regarding views

As I have read and watched the news over the course of the last four months, I have become increasingly agitated by the attitudes and actions of individuals who are opposed to President Donald Trump’s agenda. Let me make this clear: everyone is free to disagree with another. But the actions of some in the 23rd Congressional District call into question the morals the Left is so vehemently interested in upholding.

Is it really democratic to send mysterious substances to (and then vandalize) the offices of Congressman Nick Langworthy, and then scream about how our civil liberties are being curved? Harming innocent people to advance a political motive is the textbook definition of terrorism. While I am not calling my fellow Americans terrorists, their actions are certainly to be called into question.

Langworthy is one of the most down-to-earth politicians in Congress right now and is working every day to make lives better for the average American and Western New Yorker.

One of his biggest strengths is that he has wholeheartedly endorsed Trump’s pro-border security movement. I myself come from Dunkirk and have lived there for over 19 years. The drug problems are rampant, with drug busts seemingly happening every week. Many are due to the problem at our southern border, which for years — before it was quickly closed by Trump — was open and allowing people with criminal history into our hometowns.

Many question ICE’s role in removing people out of our neighborhoods. However, these are not “innocent people” because they illegally chose to cross the border. Some illegal immigrants are dangerous drug smugglers orchestrated by notorious cartels, such as MS-13 and Tren de Aragua, who are infamous for using anyone they can get their hands on to smuggle drugs.

Additionally, despite claims of being “unreachable” by Democratic members of this constituency, the Congressman has multiple offices with which people can take their concerns to and voice their beliefs. Furthermore, the Congressman regularly hosts telephone town halls, in which the members of his district are able to call in and voice their concerns directly to Mr. Langworthy himself. This outspoken minority of people — Langworthy won this district by over 30 points in November, according to Ballotpedia — continue to berate and cause harm to people across the district instead of working to find any common ground with the Republicans.

Working to get five minutes of fame on MSNBC doesn’t win over anyone, and it certainly doesn’t find solutions to problems the average American faces, like the cost of living and the drug crisis. Democrats need to take a lesson in losing and figure out how to control their outrage.
