GOP cuts harm Langworthy plan
Editor, OBSERVER:
This is a letter I emailed to U.S. Rep. Nick Langworthy concerning the massive layoff of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration employees.
Dear Congressman Langworthy,
About your WARN Act. This proposed legislation that is intended to improve weather alert systems. The success of this legislation depends on NOAA, the agency responsible for providing meteorological data essential to accurate weather forecasting.
Can you explain why DOGE was allowed to enter NOAA headquarters and facilitate the layoff of about 800 employees, which, by the way, was illegal through the 1988 WARN Act which requires 60 days notification of mass layoffs.
I suspect this NOAA layoff was not an act of efficiency and has more to do with NOAA’s research on climate change. President Donald Trump already saw to it that any mention of climate change was removed from federal websites. Is the Elon Musk-Trump presidency so afraid that the American people are going to find out that climate change is real and that catastrophic weather will only get worse unless all societies work together to reduce its scientifically evident root cause, carbon emissions.
Something the Musk/Trump presidency refuses to do. I WARN you Congressman Langworthy if this self serving, reckless behavior of the Musk-Trump presidency continues even the best alert system won’t save us.
Please support NOAA, climate change research and international cooperation to reduce carbon emissions.
I received the standard electronically generated reply “Thank you for your letter” but no comment on the content of my letter.
