Hurricane, Jackals’ basketball seasons put on hold by coronavirus precaution
The Premier Basketball League announced on its twitter page on Thursday that all league games and operations have been suspended indefinitely due to the most recent coronavirus outbreak. The Chautauqua Hurricane currently sit atop the Premier Basketball League with a 10-3 record.
The PBL noted how safety is of its highest concern in its twitter statement: “All Premier Basketball League games and operations will be suspended indefinitely due to the most recent coronavirus outbreak. Safety is of the highest importance for our League and it is in the best interest of our players, staff, teams and most importantly fans to cease operations immediately for the 2020 season. We urge everyone to take this matter seriously and to take the proper precautions to stay safe and healthy during this time.”
The Basketball League, which includes the Jamestown Jackals, has decided to end its season as safety precaution in lieu of the coronavirus.
The team made that announcement on its Facebook page Thursday morning.
“Due to safety precautions in lieu of the coronavirus, Season 3 of The Basketball League and Season 5 of the Jamestown Jackals has abruptly concluded,” the team said in its statement. “We want to commend our players, coaches, staff, volunteers, sponsors and fans for a spectacular 8-3 season and many great things to come.”
Noted TBL in a statement: “With the ever-growing escalation of information coming out almost hourly, the level of potential risk for all TBL participants is too great to go forward with this event (even without fans). Thank you to our players, game day staff, fans and team market owners, who have understood and supported us through this unique time in world history.
“We are confident that as a nation and a people we will get through this. Looking forward to seeing everyone next season.”
