CCAA Tennis Tournament continues with doubles play
Fredonia, Southwestern and two Olean teams earned Section VI qualifying berths by virtue of their performances Wednesday at the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Doubles Championships, which were played at Lakewood YMCA and at Southwestern Central School.
Reaching the CCAA semifinals, which will begin at noon today, are Ryan Davis and Jackson Spangler of Fredonia; Gannon Moore and Brayden Haaksma of Southwestern; and Alex Blehar and Isaac Moses, and Alex Linderman and Cavan Boutillette, both of Olean.
The singles “final four” was determined Tuesday with Trey DeMink and Fletcher DeMink of Maple Grove; Ryan Wills of Dunkirk; and Marthinus Marias of Allegany-Limestone advancing.
Davis and Spangler posted 8-1; 6-0, 6-0; and 6-7 (6), 6-3, 6-2 doubles victories yesterday, the latter win coming against Nolan and Matthew Lefler of Southwestern, to earn a spot in today’s semifinals.
In the other doubles results among the sectional qualifiers, Moore and Haaksma prevailed 8-0; 6-2, 6-2; and 6-4, 6-3, the latter victory coming against Thayne Bodenmiller and Mihir Patel of Westfield; Bleher and Moses recorded 8-1; 6-0, 6-1; and 6-0, 6-0 victories, the latter coming against Neves Hoose and Spencer Bell of Southwestern; and Linderman and Boutillette prevailed 8-0; 6-0, 6-0; and 6-4, 6-4, the latter win coming against Nathan Cresanti and Keegan Rishel of Maple Grove.
In Tuesday’s singles action, Trey DeMink defeated Isaac Moses of Olean, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2; and Curtis Hannon of Falconer, 6-1, 6-3; Fletcher DeMink downed Dylan Ansell of Cassadaga Valley, 6-0, 6-0; and Neil Cosico of Fredonia, 6-2, 6-0; Wills upended Boutillette, 6-2, 6-1; and Spangler 6-0, 6-2; and Marias defeated Stefano Isabella of Jamestown 6-0, 6-0; and Haaksma 6-0, 6-0.
