Calph earns 50th Wednesday Travel League victory
RUSSELL, Pa. — Robert Calph shot the low round of 82 at Cable Hollow Golf Course to earn his 50th career Wednesday Travel League tour victory.
Due to recent rainfall amounts, the original event at Green Meadows Golf Course in North East, Pennsylvania, had to be moved to Cable Hollow GC. Calph joins Ed Tofil (103 tour wins) and Al Etzel (59 wins) as the only golfers to reach 50 wins.
Ed Tofil finished second with 85 and Dave Wallace was third with 86. Calph led the front nine with 39 and Tofil led the back nine with 40. Phil Hopkins was the B Flight winner. The most improved golfer was Lenny Leszkowicz, with a 22-stroke improvement over last week. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was John Tofil.
Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Pat Weaver (Nos. 2, 4), Leszkowicz (No. 5), Calph (Nos. 9, 16) and Wallace (Nos. 14, 15); B Flight — Hopkins (No. 1), Jack Hood (No. 10), Don Kujawa (No. 11) and John Waterman (No. 12).
Closest to the pin were Gary Haase (No. 2), Calph (No. 5), Weaver (No. 11) and Leszkowicz (No. 17). Winners of the Steeplechase were Calph (A Flight) and Hood (B Flight).
Top point winners were Weaver (23), Calph (21) and Leszkowicz (17). Weaver moved past Gary Richardson into third place on the all-time points List. Season points leaders: 1. Josh Hilliker (385), 2.
