Eagles shut out SC/F 34-0 in C South

SILVER CREEK — Devin Hewes had his breakout game for the Eagles reeling in three touchdown catches as Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton stormed past Silver Creek/Forestville for a 34-0 Class C South football victory Friday.

The Eagles (2-1, 2-1) dominated all three phases of the game from their defense posting a shutout, to a Nick Jacobson 61-yard punt return that set up an easy touchdown and Brayden Gibbs shining through the air with three passing touchdowns.

Gibbs was efficient going 15 of 23 for three touchdowns and 113 yards, while also rushing for a score at the goal line. Hewes finished the game with eight receptions adding up to 77 yards and the three touchdowns, while Thandon Bensink rushed for 88 yards on 14 carries.

Defensively, Tristen Gibbs made seven tackles and added a fumble recovery, and both Asher Olson and Mason Maring had five tackles.

“Obviously we have high hopes for this year and to do that you need to start stringing wins together,” Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton head coach Ryan Gibbs stated. “Especially in Class C South, it is important to start fast. I felt we controlled all three phases of the game today.”

Silver Creek/Forestville stumbled to 0-3 overall and in the league, and hosts Southwestern next week.

WOLFPACK ROLLS PAST PANTHERS

SOUTH DAYTON — Tate Catanese went 11 of 17 for 202 yards and four touchdowns as Clymer/Sherman/Panama beat Gowanda/Pine Valley 42-12 in Class D action.

Catanese threw touchdowns of 33 yards to Bryce Hinsdale, 8 and 27 yards to Carter Brink, and 60 yards to Alex Barmore.

The Wolfpack (2-1, 2-0) led 35-6 at halftime. Travis Owens added touchdown runs of 1 and 3 yards to cap the scoring.

Barmore finished with four catches for 82 yards, while Hinsdale finished with four catches for 62 yards. Collin Ryan and Bryan Gomez each had six tackles, while Hinsdale, Brink and Wyatt Eggleston had interceptions in the victory.

Camryn Slade ran for 36 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown, before leaving with an injury for the Panthers (1-2, 1-1). Winter Rivera caught three passes for 59 yards, including a 5-yard touchdown from Jayden Fish.

Defensively, Slade was in on 12 tackles, Mason Wilson was in on nine and Winter Mentley-Peters was in on seven. Kyan Austin and Isiah Washington each had an interception.
