Southwestern pulls away from Dunkirk in Division 1
Connor Young and Seth Vaughn each had a goal and an assist to power Southwestern past Dunkirk 4-2 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association West Division boys soccer at Karl Hoeppner Field.
Vaughn opened the scoring from Tate James in the 14th minute before Young scored from Bergen Nelson in the 45th minute. Ryan Ohl scored from Vaughn in the 61st minute and Grey Kidder tallied from Young in the 68th minute for the Trojans (2-1-0, 1-0-0).
Peter Felt made it a 1-1 game in the 37th minute and Naisaih Rodriguez scored in the final minute for the Marauders (1-2-1, 0-1-0), who received 14 saves in net from Greg Orcutt Jr.
FREEMAN NETS WINNER
RANDOLPH — Junior Cooper Freeman scored in the 66th minute as Randolph topped Cassadaga Valley/Falconer 1-0 at Weeden Park.
Freeman’s eighth goal of the young season came from senior Drew Hind.
Nathan Bailey made 10 saves in net for the Golden Cougars (1-2-1, 0-1-0), while Delsin Tallchief made two saves in his third clean sheet of the year for the Cardinals (4-0-0, 1-0-0).
HENRY HAS BIG DAY
NORTH COLLINS — Nathan Henry had three goals and an assist to lead Chautauqua Lake past North Collins 4-2 in the Central Division.
Travis Horvath scored from Henry before Henry scored from Kameron Press to go up 2-0 in the 24th minute.
North Collins answered with back-to-back goals in the 34th and 38th minutes. Maddox Miller scored from Zander Miller and Neven Sheehy also scored from Zander Miller to make it 2-2 at halftime.
After the break, Henry scored from Horvath in the 48th minute and from Lincoln Smith in the 55th minute.
Brendan Klossner made five saves for Chautauqua Lake (2-1-0, 1-0-0) and Mattieu Maret made six saves for North Collins (0-1-0, 0-1-0).
ELLICOTTVILLE ROLLS
SOUTH DAYTON — Owen Doherty netted a hat trick, while Christopher Edwards and Jaxson LaCroix each added a pair of goals as Ellicottville beat Pine Valley/Gowanda 9-1 in the East Division.
Rian Johnson and Timothy Dechane also scored for Ellicottville, while Doherty, Tosh Klein and Holden Basher each had a pair of assists. Jackson Tomsick added a single assist and Jackson Kruszynski made two saves in net for the Eagles (1-1-1, 1-0-0).
Pine Valley/Gowanda fell to 0-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the league.
FREDONIA HAS STRONG 2ND HALF
JAMESTOWN — A 0-0 halftime deadlock turned into a 3-0 win for Fredonia over Jamestown in Division 1 play at Strider Field.
R.J. Koopman scored from Kadin Ritenburg in the 47th minute for the Hillbillies (1-1-1, 1-0-0). Ritenburg added a goal in the 53rd minute before Luka Paoletta capped the scoring from A.J. Kinney in the 61st minute.
Andrew Cowan made five saves in net for his second consecutive clean sheet.
Ben Brown made five saves for the Red & Green (1-2-0, 0-1-0).
