Gaines, Valentine have big nights for Dunkirk

DUNKIRK — Jareese Gaines returned the opening kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown and Dunkirk outgained Lewiston-Porter 355-52 en route to a 48-7 Class B3 football victory Friday night at Karl Hoeppner Field.

Gabe Valentine completed nine passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns through the air, while the Marauders (2-4, 2-4) also ran for 193 yards as a team.

Dylan Bankoski had a sack to lead the Dunkirk defense.

PORTVILLE — Portville/Cuba-Rushford piled up 382 yards of offense en route to a 28-6 win over Fredonia in Class C South football action Friday night.

Maxx DeYoe ran 18 times for 207 yards and four touchdowns for the Panthers (), who led 14-6 through three quarters.

Portville/Cuba-Rushford quarterback Eli Sleggs completed seven passes for 155 yards, but was intercepted twice.

Donovan Dowdy scored the lone touchdown for Fredonia () on a 7-yard run in the second quarter that made it 7-6 after the 2-point conversion pass failed.

But the Panthers regained control of the game after halftime when DeYoe ran for a 48-yard touchdown and Conner Roulo added his second of four successful point-after kicks.

GOWANDA/PINE VALLEY

FRANKLINVILLE — Franklinville/Ellicottville took advantage of four Gowanda/Pine Valley turnovers and beat the Panthers 27-18 in Class D play.

Isaac Towne completed nine passes for 186 yards and four touchdowns through the air, while also rushing for 86 yards for the Titans (3-3, 2-2). Bretton Blecha caught three passes for 89 yards, with all three going for touchdowns.

Carter Capozzi went 18 of 32 for 230 yards and three touchdowns through the air for Gowanda/Pine Valley (3-3, 2-2). Brayden Smith caught eight passes for 102 yards; Kyan Austin caught four passes for 103 yards and a touchdown; and Reginald Irion and Winter Mentley-Peters also caught touchdowns for the Panthers.

Franklinville/Ellicottville led 21-12 in the third quarter before Towne connected with Blecha for a 59-yard touchdown pass to make it 27-12. Capozzi completed a 25-yard touchdown to Austin later in the quarter, but the Panthers could get no closer during a scoreless fourth quarter.
